The test of a man isn’t what you think he’ll do. It’s what he actually does.

It was relatively easy to write &#39;The Cave of Lost Souls&#39;, though, because it came to me one night in a dream. I remember waking up and having this idea for a complete story - from start to finish - in my head, so I jotted it down, then later began writing the thing.

When you start with a portrait and search for a pure form, a clear volume, through successive eliminations, you arrive inevitably at the egg. Likewise, starting with the egg and following the same process in reverse, one finishes with the portrait.

You have to live to really know things, my love
