What you want to do is, you want to get away from people being afraid to show their work, which is the first thing, because they don&#39;t want to be shot down.

For a few unfortunate kids, winter did not spell the end of the school year. There were the so-called voluntary winter courses. No kid I knew ever volunteered to go to these classes; parents, of course, did the volunteering for them.

I grew up in a house where my father encouraged my brother and me to fail. I specifically remember coming home and saying, &#39;Dad, Dad, I tried out for this or that and I was horrible,&#39; and he would high-five me and say, &#39;Way to go.&#39;
