I have always strived to do something different, to push myself.

I write because I want more than one life; I insist on a wider selection. It’s greed, plain and simple. When my characters join the circus, I’m joining the circus. Although I’m happily married, I spent a great deal of time mentally living with incompatible husbands.

I think we are realising that governments can&#39;t govern us any more.

Different directors have different things, so when I left Mike Leigh, as it were, and I went into other projects after &#39;All or Nothing,&#39; it took some getting used to - what do you mean there&#39;s a script?!?&#39; That kind of thing.

The one thing that&#39;s going to get you through this business is having strong roots, being grounded and knowing what is true.

I love acting but I also love writing, especially comedy.
